Knight Cap: Soccer Stunner, Volleyball Victory

Knight Cap

This is our Knight Cap, where we recap the weekend in UCF sports outside of football. And what a weekend it was for Women's Soccer and Volleyball:

Women's Soccer Stuns Oklahoma State in 3-2 Comeback Victory

It was looking bad for Women's Soccer in Stillwater, with a 1-3 record, and down 2-0 in the 83rd minute.

Then Carol Rodrigues and Saga Fredriksson broke through with two goals in the span of five minutes, and the Knights and Cowgirls were headed to overtime in their non-conference affair.

In the 96th minute of added time, an Oklahoma State foul in the goal box allowed Morgan Ferrara to end it with a penalty kick:

Four days later, Carol Rodrigues' pair of goals, including another PK in the 82nd minute, lifted UCF over Stetson in DeLand.

The Knights are now 3-3.

Next Up: Home vs. FIU, Thursday, September 8th

Volleyball Takes Home SIU Tournament Trophy

There was drama at the very end, but UCF Volleyball came away with the Saluki Invitational Championship trophy after a 2-1 weekend, with victories over Northern Arizona and Western Michigan.

The only blemish was a five-setter against the home squad.

Following a sweep of Western Michigan to close out their slate in the tournament, UCF had to await the result of Southern Illinois and Northern Arizona. But when NAU upset the Salukis in four in the tournament finale, the Knights, with a higher set win percentage than all other squads, took the trophy.

Jordan Pingel was named Tournament MVP, and Jale Hervey and Taylor Gallart made the all-tournament team.

Even better, the Knights, now 5-2, are climbing up the mid-major polls:

Next Up: The Holiday Inn Orlando East Classic at The Venue, with HUGE matches against FAU (11 a.m.) and LSU (7 p.m.) on Friday , followed by Seattle on Sunday at 2 p.m.)

In other news...

Men's Soccer's September 2nd match against Charlotte was cancelled due to complications from Hurricane Hermine. The Knights then came up short, 2-1, against South Carolina on Sunday.

Next Up: At Mercer, September 11th.
