At Long Last, UCF Men's Soccer Wins Home Opener

Scott Calabrese Finally Gets First Home Win

After seven straight road games to start the season, plus two canceled home matches against FIU and Charlotte, UCF Men's Soccer finally held its home debut in style, giving new head coach Scott Calabrese his first home victory by waxing Stetson, 4-0.

The Knights' first home match came 41 days after the start of the season.

Junior forward Cal Jennings scored his first two goals of the season - and his career - in a two-and-a-half minute span in the first half to put UCF on top 2-0 at the break. The Knights added two more tallies in the second half from Matias Pyysalo (his team-leading 6th goal of the year) and Ricardo Oliveros (his first of the year, on an assist from Pyysalo) to knock off the Hatters for the 32nd time in 45 all-time meetings.

Pyysalo is tied for the lead in the American Athletic Conference in points (15) and goals (6) this season and stands alone in the league in goals per game at 0.75.

The Knights continue their conference slate at home in the next two games, facing Memphis on Saturday, October 7th at 7 p.m., and Tulsa on Sunday, October 15th at noon.
