UCF announced Friday that it has secured donations for the construction of the Recovery Cove, better known as the ‘Lazy River.’
Athletic director Danny White made the announcement on the eve of the UCF Knights hosting ESPN College GameDay:
Recovery Cove is happening!! BIG-Time thank you to UCF alumni Tom & Stacey McNamara for ensuring our student-athletes have the best experience possible. #ChargeOn

UCF made a point of this project being entirely privately-funded in the release. The $1 million donation comes from Tom McNamara and his wife Stacey, who are both UCF alumni. Tom is the founder and president of Southern Development and Construction, a contracting firm located in Chuluota, just north of UCF.
It’s perhaps the gaudiest part of UCF’s $30 million capital project for new construction in and around the Athletic Village on the north side of campus:
During the week, the area is expected to be a hang-out for student-athletes, but on gamedays, it will serve as a tailgating, er, covegating area for donors and other dignitaries.
