It’s time for the 2022 Black & Gold Banneret Awards!

Each year we pass out a bunch of awards honoring the best athletes, coaches, teams, and moments of the previous UCF Knights athletic year. Our staff votes, and so do you, the fans.

Here’s how it works: We, the staff, put together our nominees for each award. You can listen to our nominations podcast episode here. Over the next couple of weeks, we will open fan voting for each award. Each staff member gets one vote, and the winner of the fan vote will get one vote. If there is a tie, the fan vote will be the tiebreaker. We will announce the winners in two weeks.

Our 2022 Black & Gold Banneret Awards continue with the Alumni of the Year award. Here are your nominees:


Gabriel Davis — Football

• Appeared in 16 games, starting 4 for the Buffalo Bills.

• Caught 35 passes for 549 yards and 6 touchdowns during the regular season.

• Caught 10 passes for 242 yards and 5 touchdowns in two playoff games.

• Set an NFL record with four receiving touchdowns in a playoff game vs Kansas City.


Sean Johnson — Soccer

  • Started 29 matches in 2021 for New York FC
  • Team captain
  • Gave up 31 goals
  • Won MLS Championship

Matthew Wright — Football

  • Played in 14 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Made 21 out of 24 field goals with a long of 56 yards.
  • Made 13 out of 15 extra points.
  • Went 3/3, including hitting a 53-yard field goal as time expired against Miami to give the Jaguars their first win of the season.

Mattie Rogers — Weightlifting

  • Represented the United States in the 87kg class at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, finishing sixth.
  • Took Gold in the 2020 Santo Domingo Pan American Championship
  • Took Gold in the 2021 USA Weightlifting National Championship
  • Took Silver in the 2021 Guayaquil Pan American Championship
  • Took Silver in the Tashkent World Championship
