Rannell Hall, UCF Alumni Help Apollos Depose Commanders

Apollos now 2-0, returning to Spectrum Stadium next week.

UCF alum Rannell Hall, now with the Orlando Apollos

Former UCF Knights WR Rannell Hall caught his first two passes of his first season in the Alliance, plus a critical late two-point conversion, helping the Orlando Apollos to a 37-29 win over the San Antonio Commanders on Sunday at the Alamodome.

Hall had one carry for six yards in the Apollos’ opener at home in Week 1, but contributed to an offensive outburst that saw the Apollos come back from down 12 late in the third to nab their second win of the season.

Hall had two grabs on four targets for 19 yards. The conversion came after a go-ahead pick-6 by the Apollos defense to push Orlando’s lead to eight in the fourth, a lead they would not relinquish.

Other Knight Notes

Jordan McCray and Aaron Evans again got the start on the Apollos’ offensive line:

McCray’s performance landed him on Pro Football Focus’ Team of the Week for Week 2:

Chris Martin also saw action on the O-Line as a reserve.

Tony Guerad also started at nose tackle for the first time. Even though he didn’t record a tackle (such is life as a nose tackle in a 3-4), he helped hole San Antonio to just 63 yards rushing in the second half.

Next up

The Apollos are back home at Spectrum Stadium next week to face Mike Singletary, Christian Hackenburg and the Memphis Express. First snap is 8 p.m. on Saturday, and the game will be televised on NFL Network.
