While there will be basketball this summer in Orlando, some UCF Knights will play the game on one of the world’s biggest basketball stages before the NBA tips off at Disney.

Chad Brown and A.J. Davis are suiting up for a team called Playing for Jimmy V this summer in The Basketball Tournament.

The Basketball Tournament is an annual tournament featuring some of the game’s best non-NBA players. All games are broadcast live on ESPN’s networks.

In years past, as many as 97 teams have participated in the tournament across the country, but this year will feature a smaller, socially distanced field of 24 in Columbus, Ohio from July 4-14.

The field was announced last week, and Playing for Jimmy V, Brown & Davis’s team, were not selected. However, Best Virginia, a participating team consisting of former West Virginia alumni, withdrew from the tournament after a player tested positive for COVID-19.

Playing for Jimmy V replaced them and now UCF alumni have been handed a team to support.

Their teammates include former Gonzaga point guard Josh Perkins and guard Marques Townes, who famously hit a clutch three-pointer in the 2017 edition of March Madness during Loyola-Chicago’s Cinderella run.

Brown & Davis’s Playing for Jimmy V team will play their first game of TBT on Sunday, July 5, against the Marshall alumni team. Herd That.
