Devunte Dawson is the first UCF Knight to publicly declare that he will be opting out of the 2020 football season. He made the announcement on his Instagram page Thursday.
“I will be opting out of this season due to COVID-19 #GodsPlan,” Dawson wrote.

Dawson, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound redshirt junior cornerback, signed with the Knights in December following two seasons at Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kan. He enrolled at UCF in January and was with the team throughout spring practice. He was expected to see snaps this season as a reserve.
The Knights have a good amount of depth in their secondary after signing six defensive backs this past winter, including Dawson. They are also waiting to see if a couple of recent Power 5 transfers, defensive backs Divaad Wilson and Jaiden Francois, will be given waivers to play immediately.
