Danny White’s optimism was justified.
The UCF Knights will indeed visit the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets this season. The game, which appeared to be hanging by a thread once the Atlantic Coast Conference introduced its schedule plan last week, is officially scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19. That’s a day later than the previous kickoff date, Sept. 18.
The matchup was confirmed this morning by the ACC and UCF Football.

A kickoff time will be announced later.
You can see in that ACC schedule grid above that UCF doesn’t show up as an opponent in North Carolina’s row. The Tar Heels have an open slot for a non-conference opponent, but for Sept. 19. So, as expected, that game versus the Knights appears to be officially cancelled.
You might remember that the UCF-Georgia Tech game was originally scheduled for Sept. 19 anyway but was moved up in order to give UCF an extra day to prepare for its road game at East Carolina on Sept. 24. With the meeting now back on for the 19th, it remains to be seen if the ECU game will be moved at all or if the Knights will simply proceed with only four days between games.
The Georgia Tech matchup gives UCF its second non-conference game and 10 games overall on its 2020 slate. White said Wednesday that he wants to play a 12-game schedule that includes seven home games and four out-of-conference opponents. White maintained his optimism about hosting the Florida A&M Rattlers on Nov. 7 even though that game was wiped from UCF’s official schedule once the MEAC suspended its fall-sports season last month. But as with seemingly everything everywhere right now, the situation is fluid.
Right now, the Knights are scheduled to begin their 2020 season at home against the FIU Panthers on Sept. 12.
