This is the third consecutive season in which the Knights are included in the preseason coaches poll. They were 23rd and tied for 17th in 2018 and 2019, respectively. They ended last season at No. 24 in this poll.
The Cincinnati Bearcats are the only other ranked team on UCF’s current schedule; they are No. 22. The Memphis Tigers and the Tulane Green Wave are receiving votes.
The North Carolina Tar Heels sit at No. 19. That would have been nice.
Friendly reminder: The coaches poll only exists as a device to drive debate. It has no influence on anything of substance and should not be taken seriously.
The Associated Press’ preseason poll, which also isn’t worth a damn thing ultimately, will be released later this month.
The season’s first College Football Playoff poll, which actually matters, usually comes out around late October or early November.
