The UCF Knights are atop the American Athletic Conference’s 2020 preseason football media poll, which was released Tuesday morning.

The Knights received 10 of a possible 20 first-place votes to win the conference championship. It’s the third consecutive year UCF has been forecast as league champs. The Cincinnati Bearcats received the second-most votes (seven) to win the conference. The Knights edged Cincinnati in total points, 204-201.

The Memphis Tigers, who captured the conference championship in 2019, finished third in the poll with two votes. The Navy Midshipmen got one vote.

The Knights are ranked No. 21 in both the Coaches Poll and the Associated Press Poll. They are one spot ahead of the Bearcats in the former, one spot behind them in the latter. The Tigers are receiving votes in each poll.

UCF is scheduled to open its season on Sept. 19 at Georgia Tech. The Bearcats will also begin play that day as they will host Austin Peay. Memphis’ season starts this weekend, Sept. 5, versus Arkansas State.
