The game was originally scheduled for 2 p.m. on ESPN2. Originally ABC was going to air the Gasparilla Bowl between South Carolina and UAB in that time slot, but the game was cancelled after COVID cases with South Carolina.
The first matchup between these teams originally was supposed to be played in Houston last Tuesday, but that was also rescheduled after COVID cases with the Houston program.

This is not the first time Houston and UCF are in the national spotlight. Back in 2019, Houston hosted ESPN’s College Gameday showcase on March 2, 2019. The Cougars came into that game ranked 6th, like they will on Saturday. UCF knocked them off and spoiled the party.
This is a showcase game for The American and one of the biggest games of the day in college basketball. ABC/ESPN picked this game over Kentucky-Louisville, which is airing on ESPN at same time slot.
Rich Hollenberger and Jon Crispin will be calling the game for ABC.
