On this special edition of the Black & Gold Banneret Podcast, Jeff and Eric are joined by U.S. Soccer legend and #1 on our list of the greatest UCF female athletes of all time, the great Michelle Akers.

Michelle discusses coming to Orlando and being a student at UCF in the late 1980s, and pioneering the sport of women’s soccer in her time at UCF. She also discusses her relationship with former UCF head coach Amanda Cromwell, the first Women’s World Cup in 1991, and the challenges she faced leading up to the historic 1999 World Cup. Michelle also talks about her relationship with current UCF head coach and her former USWNT teammate Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak, the current state of U.S. Soccer, the emergence and growth of the NWSL, and her advice for young women in sports in these bizarre times.
