UDFA Season is underway

With the 2019 NFL Draft now in the books, now comes probably the busiest part of the year for following former UCF Knights: the rush to sign undrafted free agents. While Trysten Hill was the only Knight to hear his name called this weekend in Nashville, several Knights locked up either free agent contracts or try-outs with NFL teams in the hours after the conclusion of the draft.

The long-running joke is that Pittsburgh is where kickers go to die, as the Steelers’ kicking woes through the years have been well-documented. Chris Boswell was a dreadful 13/20 last year, and while Matthew McCrane did not miss in the season finale, he kicked for three teams last season alone.
Rashard is originally from St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, an NFL factory in itself. NFL teams are always in need of DBs. Interestingly, DB Robert Alford is gone from the Falcons and fellow UCF alum Kemal Ishmael has moved to LB.
With his draft stock on the rise, will Hill be able to crack the top 60?

Trysten Hill’s draft stock really skyrocketed after the season came to an end. The defensive tackle declared for the draft after his junior season which was no surprise to anybody who followed the football team closely.

Highlights

At one point, it was assumed that Hill would transfer from UCF after the Peach Bowl per an Instagram post he made saying it would be his last game as a Knight. Hill was part of Scott Frost’s first recruiting class and Frost leaving for Nebraska clearly made Hill contemplate leaving as well.

After deciding to stay in Orlando, off-the-field issues really hurt his playing time in 2018. Despite some dominating performances throughout the season, he technically only started one game. We’re not here to gossip but there definitely was behind the scenes issues between Hill and the new coaching staff in addition to some non-football related incidents.

Regardless of what happened off the field, there’s no denying that Hill thrived when his number was called. With 3 sacks and 10.5 tackles for a loss in 2018, Hill earned himself a combine invite in which he did not disappoint. Since then, Hill has visited with the Browns, Eagles, Packers and Texans, to name a few.

Draft Projection: Rounds 2-3

As his stock keeps rising, experts are saying they wouldn’t be surprised if Hill becomes a top-60 pick. I do think he’ll go in the third round but there’s definitely a chance we can see him off the board earlier than expected.
