#24 UCF Softball Overpowers Ohio State

Knights’ offense too much for Buckeyes

UCF Athletics

In a highly anticipated game on Tuesday night in College Softball, the #24 UCF Knights blew out Ohio State 11-3 in 6 innings to win their 12th in a row and improve to 23-7 on season.

It was another resume win for UCF as Ohio State came in ranked 20th in the RPI. The win improved the Knights’ RPI from 19 to 15.

Here’s a quick run around bases:

1st: Shannon Doherty Is Still Great

Doherty went 3/4, driving in 3 runs to lead the Knights’ balance attack, including 2 RBI double in the bottom of 3rd to give UCF 4-2 lead that they would not give up.

For the season, Doherty is hitting .375, which leads the team, to go along with 20 runs batted in, which is second on team. Doherty has reached base in 15 straight games.

2nd: Jada Cody Adds To NCAA-Leading RBI Total

Cody got the Knights offense going in the 1st with an RBI double for her 41st RBI of season, which gives her a 2-RBI lead over Washington’s Baylee Klingler.

3rd: Denali Schappacher Moves Up the UCF Record Books

Denali Schappacher hit her seventh career triple, tying her with Tawny Swan for sixth place all-time in triples in program history. Schappacher went 2 for 3, which puts her one hit away from 200 career, which would make her the 10th UCF player ever to reach the milestone.

Home: Ashleigh Griffin is on Fire

Since March 5th, when Ashleigh Griffin hit a walk-off RBI single to beat South Carolina, she has gone 12/25, driving in 10 runs. That includes going 3 for 4 on Tuesday night, driving in 4 runs and hitting a HR in the 3rd.

On Deck: UCF hosts Furman for a three-game series Saturday (Doubleheader) and Sunday.
