UCF Volleyball is Getting Hosed in the AVCA Rankings

Knights are top-15 in RPI, but barely receiving votes in the Coaches’ Poll

UCF Football isn’t the only Knights squad putting a long winning streak on the line this weekend at East Carolina - UCF Volleyball has won 13 matches in a row, and face the Pirates Friday night at 7 p.m.

The Knights are 16-3, 7-0 in The American and 10-0 at home. They have wins over RPI #4 USC. #30 Wichita State. They sit at #13 in the RPI rankings themselves. They’re clearly having their best season since winning The American in 2014.

So why is UCF receiving only five votes in the AVCA Coaches’ Poll?

By the way, that’s up from last week, when they weren’t even listed in the Receiving Votes column. What gives?

Head Coach Todd Dagenais, who just eclipsed 200 career wins at UCF last weekend, is reserved but philosophical about it all:

Read between the lines there and I think we all know what he thinks.

UCF has a huge weekend coming up. They face ECU in Greenville on Friday night - the night before the Football team also plays at ECU - before traveling to Cincinnati to play the phenomenal Jordan Thompson and the Cincinnati Bearcats, who are at #36 in the RPI and two spots outside of the AVCA Top 25.

If UCF continues their roll and comes back home with another pair of victories in hand, and still remain outside the AVCA Top 25, then it won’t be an injustice anymore.

It will be an outright travesty.

Jordan Pingel Makes History

Belated congrats to Jordan Pingel for becoming UCF’s all-time leader in digs with her 2000th against UConn last week, passing Meredith Murphy’s 1,999:

And the game ball:

This while UCF won its 1000th match as a program - Something only 24 schools have accomplished in history.

At least they’re top 25 in something.
