With several of their football counterparts in attendance, the UCF Knights Women’s Basketball team opened conference play with a 66-62 win over the Tulane Green Wave Tuesday night.

The Knights were led by Masseny Kaba who celebrated her birthday by leading all scorers with 15 points. Diamond Battles and Tay Sanders each added 11 points.

Alisha Lewis scored 10 points including two clutch free throws with a few seconds left to wrap it up.

UCF had a slow start in the first quarter, as Tulane led 14-8 hitting three of four from the three-point line. The Knights’ defense stepped up the rest of the way, holding Tulane to 3/16 shooting from the three-point line the rest of the game. UCF also forced 19 Green Wave turnovers and turned them into 23 points.

It’s a huge win for the Knights as Tulane was picked 3rd in The American’s preseason poll, and have arguably the best freshman in the conference in Jer’Kaila Jordan, who led them with 12 points in 25 minutes despite being in foul trouble for most of the game.

Up next for UCF is a two-game road trip traveling to Tulsa for Saturday’s conference tilt with tip scheduled for 2 p.m. on ESPN+ followed by game at Georgia Tech on Monday, which will air on the ACC Network.
