The UCF Knights Women’s Basketball team earned its first-ever Big 12 road win on Saturday, defeating the Texas Tech Red Raiders 69-64 at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas. With the win, UCF improved to 12-10 overall and 3-9 in the Big 12.

Since starting 0-7 in Big 12 play, UCF has now won three of its last five Big 12 games. UCF gave TTU (16-9, 5-7), its third consecutive loss.

“I’ve been on teams who put it together in the end and made runs,” Messer said. “And so, that’s how it goes. We’re gonna keep pushing, keep fighting.”

Gaining Confidence

UCF finished the first quarter on a 16-2 run. The Knights finished making their last four shots and forced 11 Raider turnovers.

In total, UCF recorded five blocked shots and forced 22 turnovers, 13 of them steals.

Mya Burns added 18 points, including 9/10 from the free-throw line.

“To me, we’ve challenged her this season to be, you know, an offensive threat for us,” “And now, I think now she’s getting comfortable in that role.”

Kaitlin Peterson Back on Track

In UCF’s last three games, Kaitlin Peterson, UCF’s leading scorer at 20.1 points per game, had scored no more than 13 points.

Tonight, Peterson dropped 23 points. It was the 11th time Peterson scored at least 20 points in a game this season. On defense, she also added eight steals.

“To me, that player is one of the best players in our league,” Messer said.

Bailey Maupin led the Lady Raiders with 24 points.
