We now have the answer to the trivia question of which UCF Knights team won the program’s first-ever event as a Big 12 Conference member: Women’s Soccer.
A Dayana Martin goal and a clutch save by Caroline DeLisle in the waning seconds pushed the Knights past the Purdue Boilermakers 1-0 in UCF’s regular season opener in West Lafayette.
UCF peppered Purdue with 9 shots on goal in the first 45, but none found the back of the net.
But three minutes into the second 45, Martin changed that:

The vet from Boca Raton sent notice early that she expects to live up to her preseason All-Big 12 recognition
Her fellow fifth-year Knight, DeLisle, saved all five Purdue shots on frame, but none more critical than the one that saved the result quite literally at the horn:

UCF is — you guessed it — 1-0 as a Big 12 program.
The Knights play at Georgia next Thursday in Athens. Their home opener is Sunday, August 27th vs. UNF.
